The meaning of the colours of the Ghana flag

The Ghana Flag was designed by Mrs Theodosia Okoh, a Ghanaian, to replace the flag of the United Kingdom upon attainment of independence in 1957.   The Flag of Ghana consists of the colours RED, GOLD and Green in horizontal stripes with a five-pointed star in the centre of the gold stripe.

RED       represents the blood of those who died in the country's struggle for independence.

GOLD     represents the mineral wealth of the country.

GREEN   symbolises the country's rich forest and

THE BLACK STAR   stands for the lodestar of African freedom.

Ghana - kurze Informationen

Die Republik Ghana liegt in Westafrika. Die Südgrenze ist der Atlantische Ozean, im Westen grenzt das Land an die Côte d'Ivoire (Elfenbeinküste), im Osten an Togo und im Norden an Burkina Faso (ehemals Obervolta).

Das Klima ist tropisch warm, relativ trocken im Südosten, feucht-heiß im Südwesten und trocken und heiß im Norden. Dem entsprechen Savannenlandschaften im Norden und Südosten, Regenwaldlandschaften im Südwesten.

Die größte Erhebung im Land ist der Berg Afadjato mit 880 m. Im übrigen ist das Land meistens wellig und im Norden von einer großen Beckenlandschaft geprägt.

Sie ist weitgehend im Einzugsbereich des heutigen

Voltastausees, einem der längsten künstlichen Seen der Welt.

Die Einwohner von Ghana werden nicht Ghanesen, sondern Ghanaer (engl. Ghanaian(s)) genannt. Das entsprechende Adjektiv ist ghanaisch (engl. Ghanaian).
